Since the moment a girl breathes her first breath, there is a standard and expectation put on her. While growing up and turning into a woman, there are ways that she should act, and think. Realizing how deeply ingrained she is to be what they want her to be, there is a desire to be free of this role and these expectations, but also it is all that she has ever known.
She is told to be smaller and quiet and to not let her emotions get the best of her. She needs to always have it together, no matter the circumstances. For it is silly to be too emotional, she must hide the fact that she let herself slip. The guilt and shame she feels for feeling what every human being does. Quickly, they are starting to stare, she dusts herself off and pretends it never happened.
She always has to be on. Pulling out all of her tricks to keep the people, men, around her happy. She dances and she smiles, she prays that she has done good enough. Hopes that her performance is everything they wanted and more. Even though she is so so tired she knows she can never stop.
